What is military time?
Military time, or the 24-hour clock, is a method of telling time without using AM or PM. It counts the hours from 0 to 23, starting at midnight as 00.00 and ending at 23.59. For example, 23.00 in military time is the same as 11.00 PM in regular time. This particular format is most commonly used in military, aviation, healthcare, and several other fields.
12 Hour and military time
Military time:
Military time uses a 24-hour clock format where the day starts at 00:00 and ends at 23:59. The hours are numbered from 0 to 23 without using AM and PM. Exact midnight is written as 00.00; noon is 12.00.

12-hour format:
The 12-hour clock format divides the day into two cycles, AM (ante meridiem, before noon) and PM (post meridiem, after noon). Each cycle runs from 12.00 to 11.59. In this format, midnight is 12.00 AM and noon is 12.00 PM.

Why is military time used?
The military time calculator is mainly used in certain crucial areas because it is accurate, consistent, and avoids confusion:
Military Operations: Military time helps in clear communication, particularly when working across time zones. Especially when time is vital to mission accomplishment.
Aviation & Transport: Commercial pilots, air traffic controllers, and trail operators use military time to avoid misunderstandings about schedules and to keep everything running smoothly.
Healthcare: Hospitals and clinics rely on military time for accurate medical documentation of patient care, medication administration, and time schedules.
How do i convert military time
To convert standard time to military time, follow these simple steps;
Identify AM or PM: If the time is in AM (midnight to 11:59 AM) keep the hour value the same but add the leading zero if the hour value is less than 10. If the time is in PM (12:00 PM to 11.59 PM) add 12 to hours unless the time is exactly 12 PM.
Special cases: Midnight which is represented as 12:00 AM in standard time must be converted to 0000 in military time because it is the start of a day. Similarly 12.00 PM remains unchanged since it is already in the correct format.
Remove colons: Once time is converted the next step is to remove the colon and ensure time is written in HHMM format. Military time doesn’t not use any colons and AM/PM designations.
